Cream together butter and sugar. Blend well.
Beat in egg yolk and mix until smooth. (Photo #1)
Mix in flour and blend. (Photo #2)
Press the dough together and place in the refrigerator for an hour.
Lightly work the dough, then roll into 3cm balls between the palms of your hands.
Press each ball with your thumb to flatten. Then form into a leaf shape. (Photo #3)
Carve lines on each cookie with a skewer as in the photo. (Photo #4)
Bake in a preheated oven at 160 °C (320 °F) for 10 to 15 minutes until golden. (Photo #5)
After cooling, sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar generously.
